
Robert "Bobby" Johnson, DMD, MD
DUO CO-FOUNDER
Dr. Robert Johnson is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, physician, and dentist dedicated to advancing oral health through evidence-based science and sustainable innovation. He is the co-founder of Duo Toothpaste, a plastic-free, tablet toothpaste designed to be clinically effective and environmentally responsible.
Education and Clinical Practice
Dr. Johnson earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, where he was inducted into the Robert R. Andrews Research Honor Society and Bates Research Society for his academic and research excellence. He went on to complete his Doctor of Medicine (MD) at the University of Washington School of Medicine, followed by a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Washington and Harborview Medical Center. His clinical practice spans dentoalveolar surgery, pathology, trauma, reconstructive procedures, and anesthesia. He holds hospital privileges at Overlake Medical Center and he works with his father, also Dr. Robert Johnson, at Aesthetic Dental Associates and his wife, Dr. Stevie Roberts, at Dentiste. His family is well-established and highly respected in the dental community.
Research and Publications
Throughout his career, Dr. Johnson has been deeply engaged in clinical research and tissue engineering. He is a recipient of the Osteo Science Foundation Research Grant and Research Observership, and his work on osteomyelitis defects and bone regeneration has been recognized nationally. He has published multiple peer-reviewed studies, including in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the Journal of the Massachusetts Dental Society, with topics including surgical safety checklists, anesthesia safety, disease burden of odontogenic disease, and innovative non-operative treatments for medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw.
